Retaining walls

One of the elements of landscape design on the area with uneven surfaces is retaining walls. This original solution, in addition to creating an interesting decor, also has a useful function – prevents soil sliding. But retaining walls can be used on a flat area, artificially distorting this “smoothness”.

To design retaining walls, various material can be used: wood, natural stone, brick or concrete. To understand which material to give preference, visually evaluate the landscape of your site and imagine what kind of composition you will have.

One of the lightest in the installation of the walls is wooden. It is made of high -quality, solid logs without cracks and not susceptible to decay. They can be laid both with a horizontal roll, and set in an upright position. The tree must be protected from decay under the influence of the environment.

The most beautiful and more natural is a wall of natural stone. But the process of laying it is the most time -consuming, t.to. requires a thorough foundation and thorough selection of stones at texture on the front side of the wall.

The brick retaining wall also needs the foundation – tape. And its installation requires, as with masonry, large expenses of time, effort and means. Such a wall looks no less beautiful, especially if it is finished with facing brick or ceramic tiles. But in this case, a feeling of naturalness is “lost”.

The cheapest in costs can be called a concrete wall. But this does not mean at all that a couple of trifles will be installed. You can’t do without a foundation. And besides, it will also require formwork to build the wall itself. The concrete support can be decorated with a natural stone, all the same brick or tiles, or you can just stop at the usual plaster.

But in any case, no matter what retaining wall you install on your site, it should be remembered that this is also an element of decoration of the area. So, in the wall should provide niches with the ground for planting plants (better curly). A good design solution will also be suspended and standing vases with flowers.
